Academic gowns first entered Thai history during Kosa Pan’s diplomatic mission to France in the reign of Louis XIV.

Originating as 12th-century European winter robes, gowns later made their way to the US, where they became dedicated graduation attire after independence.

Thailand officially adopted academic robes in 1897 with the Barrister's Robe, with Chulalongkorn University later expanding gowns to other faculties.

Today, Thai gowns use lightweight fabrics tailored to our climate and caps are rarely used. Every graduate has the right to wear their gown at any official ceremony requiring proof of degree, whether they attend the main ceremony or not.

The Academic Resource Center, Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University, congratulates all graduates along with their proud families on the occasion of the 2026 Royal Commencement Ceremony.
