Kin Jay Festival, also known as the Vegetarian Festival, is a nine-day Taoist tradition that begins on the first day of the waxing moon and ends on the ninth day of the ninth lunar month, according to the Chinese calendar. It will take place between October 21st and October 29th, 2025

The Vegetarian Festival appears in Southeast Asian countries, including Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand, as well as the Indonesian archipelago, and is not entirely a tradition of mainland Chinese or overseas Chinese.

Nowadays, people adopt a vegetarian diet for reasons of health, compassion, and to align with religious teachings that advocate against taking animal life.
