The study aimed to find out factors affecting swine contract farming (SCF) adoption and decision making in choosing contract company, and to study the impacts and the procedures to develop the SCF using three-phase mixed-method model research. Phase I: an exploratory study to construct both the hypothesis and questionnaire development. Phase II: the confirmatory study to test the hypothesis. Phase III: the confirmatory study in reviewing the results of phase I and phase II.

The results of the 3 phases showed that the factors affecting SCF adoption were consistent from both qualitative studies and quantitative, consisting of economic factors, quality of inputs, and farmers' problems. Factors derived from the qualitative study included perceived benefits, land availability, experience, company contact, service, and environmental impact.

In terms of factors affecting decision making in choosing SCF company were the company services, the farmer problem, the production quality, the farmer experience, the economic condition, the environment impact, and gender

SCF has impact to economic, social and environmental, and the approach to developing SCF is strictly adhering to the company's requirements or recommendations. Farmers have to develop themselves and the government should come in to supervise and monitor contracts to ensure fairness for both farmers and contracting companies.
