The book, "Being Chinese Because of a Feeling: History of the Mat and Pillow," presents a study of the history of emotions among the Thai-Chinese middle class. It aims to reveal the shifts in their ways of thinking and the understanding of their emotions, from the era of dictatorship and the political activism of patriotic Chinese descendants, to their transformation into “Chinese people with only a mat and a pillow under the benevolence of the Thai monarchy.” The book also shows that the line between being Chinese and Thai is too blurred to be rigidly defined.
