        The book “SiamMahakan: Cultural Politics and the Struggle for Public Space” delves into a specific study of the centennial celebration of capital, the planning of the Siamese Kingdom Exhibition, and the Constitution Celebrations. It aims to cover a longer historical period than has been previously undertaken."
        The centennial celebration of capital was regarded as an opportunity to learn and to flaunt the characteristics of a prosperous, or so-called “civilized” society, both economically and culturally, to the Western colonial powers. However, the invited guests were not the general public. The people who attended were made to become part of the grand spectacle as the "observed," rather than as the public.
        The concept of a public that included the general populace emerged during the celebrations of the Constitution. This book will demonstrate the emergence of public space through the cultural politics of the Constitution Celebrations, highlighting the struggle over the concept of the public in Siam before and after the 1932 revolution....
