Study modernity in Thai society through the villainous female characters in contemporary literature, comprising 4 stories: Amrit Talai, Mae Bae, Mara Mran, and Moon Shadow.
The portrayal of the evil woman depicted in these literature reflects the emotional state and experience of the individual characters. Which was affected by the transformation of Thai society to modernity during the Cold War until the economic bubble crisis.
This book shows that modernity is
inseparable from gender issues. Even the
villainous female characters will be
distroy at the end of the story
but these literature also reveal
the paradox of modern power through the
role of villainous female characters who
simultaneously challenges and
strengthens the
state.
