The dangers of the rainy season

The cool and humid weather during the rainy season, combined with rapid temperature changes that render the body unable to adapt, is one of the reasons that many infections can spread easily and quickly. There are four types of communicable diseases that commonly occur during the rainy season: respiratory tract diseases, mosquito-borne diseases, water- and food-borne diseases, other communicable diseases, and non-communicable health threats.

Every year during this time, there are outbreaks of influenza and pneumonia, dengue, malaria, chikungunya, the Zika virus, cholera, hepatitis, HFMD, and leptospirosis. There is also the threat of poisonous animals, accidents on the road and lightning strikes.

Exercise regularly, wear warm clothes, drink clean water, eat freshly cooked food, wash your hands before eating, and keep the house clean at all times to avoid disease during the rainy season.
