During the COVID-19 pandemic, many people are concerned about the virus that could contaminate banknotes and coins that are passed through multiple hands.
The World Health Organization admits that banknotes and coins may be a medium for the spread of COVID-19, as well as other functional items such as stair railings, doorknobs.
The Bank of Thailand has presented guidelines for safe use of banknotes and coins during the COVID-19 pandemic as follows:
1. Avoid using wet banknotes and coins.
2. Banknotes and coins can be disinfected by wiping or spraying them with disinfectant or alcohol. Washing with detergent and drying in the sun. Do not wash banknotes with bleach, boil, or microwave. 3. Avoid folding the banknotes as germs may hide in the creases.
4. Do not touch your face after handling banknotes or coins. Immediately wash your hands with soap or alcohol gel.
5. Electronic payments reduce the risk of exposure to banknotes and coins.
However, COVID-19 may be contaminated with shared or public items. Therefore, should be more attention to cleanliness and handling of other materials that are shared with others.
