Hay-on-Wye : Wales book town

Hay-on-Wye or Hay, it is a small town on the River Y, located on the border between Wales and England.

Hay's old business district is less than a square mile but is packed with more than 20 independent bookstores. This made it known among book lovers as "The Town of Books".

These bookstores are mostly rare and second-hand books. Richard Booth opened his first bookstore here in 1962, called The Old Fire Station, and others followed. By 1970, Hay had earned the nickname the City of Books.

Since 1988, Hay has hosted the annual Hay Festival, which draws more than 80,000 audiences each year, inviting important speakers from around the world. Bill Clinton, who was invited here. Called this festival "The Woodstock of the Mind."
