Ratchaphruek: the golden shower tree, the color of the highway and summertime.
Thailand's summer season runs from March to May. There are many different types of plants blooming in the colors of the season, such as the pink color of the Rosy trumpet tree, Barbados Pride's orange, colorful Paper flower, and the bright yellow of the Golden Shower tree, which can be found pouring down streets and parks.
Golden Shower Tree or Ratchaphruek in Thai, also known as Koon or Lom Lang, is a medium-sized perennial bean plant. Flowering in a bouquet, 20-45 cm long, which will gradually bloom, flowers that bloomed will fall easily. Ratchaphruek is a xerophyte native plant that is easy to grow, fast growing, so it is frequently used for roadside beautification. The sight of the Ratchaphruek’s yellow-flowered is frequently one of the memories of summer.
Ratchaphruek was chosen as Thailand's national flower by the National Identity Board in 2001. Because it is a local tree, it can be found all over the country, with its beautiful color and auspicious name.
