        Daniel Gerhard Brown (born June 22, 1964) is a historical detective novelist who writes under the pen name Dan Brown. Before becoming a full-time writer, he was an amateur musician and a teacher of English and Spanish.

        He was inspired to become a writer after reading Sidney Sheldon's The Doomsday Conspiracy, and he published his first book, Hunt for the Code, in 1998.

        Dan Brown's notable works include 1998's Digital Fortress, 2000's Angels & Demons, 2001's Deception Point, and 2001's The Da Vinci Code. Code) 2003, The Lost Symbol 2009, Inferno 2013, Origin 2017.

        Brown's interest in mysteries and secrets stems from his father, a mathematician, who invented a treasure hunt for Dan and his younger siblings to play at home during the holidays.
