He-Ma-Yan, Thaksinayan, Tawan Aom Khao
(Winter Solstice), is the longest night
of the year, and countries in the
Northern Hemisphere count today as the
first day of winter. Countries in the
southern hemisphere, on the other hand,
are more influenced by the sun, and thus
count the winter solstice as the first
day of summer.
A significant astronomical
phenomenon of the winter solstice is the
sun will move from East to West with a
dent in the South, making it not pass
over the heads of those in the Northern
hemisphere.
The winter solstice is one of the
four major events of the sun rising and
setting during the year, along with
Spring equinox, Autumnal equinox, and
Summer solstice.
