Vegetarian is a dish that is prepared without meat or animal products (e.g. milk, eggs, honey, fish sauce, gelatin, collagen). However, vegetarian food is also linked to religious activities. Causing the need to refrain from pungent smelling vegetables such as garlic, onions (all kinds such as spring onions, onions, shallots), chives and coriander. Which are believed to have a stimulating smell, is an obstacle to fasting.

Vegetarian Festival or some call it The tradition of fasting to eat vegetables. It is a Taoist tradition that lasts for 9 days. From the first day of the first moon to the ninth day of the ninth month according to the Chinese calendar. Vegetarian festivals are held in Southeast Asian countries, including Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand as well as the Riau Islands in Indonesia. It is not the original tradition of mainland Chinese or all overseas Chinese. It is believed that this tradition has been held by the Peranakans in Malaysia since the Ayutthaya period.

Currently, the purpose of vegetarianism is to eat healthy, eat for mercy, refrain from life, and eat to refrain from karma according to religious principles.
