The Neilson Hayes Library is more significant in Thai history than typical libraries. The library, which is more than 100 years old and mostly provides English-language publications, was created by the same architect who designed Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall.

It started in 1922 as one of Bangkok's first libraries, founded by American and British women who intended to exchange books for reading in the name of the Bangkok Women's Library Association. The library is named after Dr. Thomas Hayward Hayes and his wife Jenny Nielson.

The same level of skill is employed in the construction of national landmarks, as designed by a prominent Italian architect in Thailand. The library building features magnificent proportions and careful attention to architectural elements that are suited for a library. Consider a double wall system to defend against moisture, ventilation, or even using brass bookshelf nails to avoid corrosion.

The library received the 1982 Outstanding Preserved Building Award from The Association of Siamese Architects under Royal Patronage.

The Neilson Hayes Library mostly provides literature in English. In addition to printing services, there are a variety of events such as music in the garden, book fairs, art exhibitions, literary Week, and children's story telling. All activities are performed mainly in English.

Open Tuesday through Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; closed Mondays and public holidays. If you are not a library member, you will be charged a cost of 100 baht per person. However, you may visit the surrounding area for free.
