Bibliotherapy is a
type of therapy that psychologists often
use to help change negative thoughts and
behaviors. By reading, patients can use
their imagination to look inward,
reflect on their lives, and manage their
emotions. This helps them improve their
habits alongside other treatments.
Therapists usually suggest
self-help books, literature, poetry, or
fiction.
Research shows that reading
books can reduce depression in adults
over the long term. It is fast,
affordable, and cuts down on unnecessary
medication.
However, it doesn't
work for everyone, such as people who
struggle to separate reality from
fantasy, individuals with intellectual
disabilities, or those with ADHD.
But for the rest of us,
picking up the right book can instantly
soothe and heal the mind, no
doctor's note needed.
